According to the latest document, in June 2024, Walmart Canada introduced new mandatory requirements for packaging testing. All private brand products in the following departments (Dept: 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 72, 87) must have ISTA-certified packaging test reports for SIOC packaging. The test reports must be within 18 months and include testing data and images.
Walmart Canada requires that all private brand products, both domestically sourced and direct import, from the above-mentioned departments must undergo this packaging test and obtain a compliant test report. Additionally, valid packaging test reports must be provided during Pre-Production Testing (PPT) for new products and Periodic Testing (PT) for existing products. Otherwise, a corrective action plan must be submitted and followed until a compliant packaging test report is provided.
In June 2024, Walmart Canada further clarified and specified its requirements for packaging and transportation testing. Below is a summary we have compiled regarding Walmart Canada's packaging requirements:
Notes:
For all private brand products, Walmart Canada requires packaging and transportation tests to include, in addition to the current ISTA 3A, 3B, and 6-FedEx-A standards, a 72-hour environmental conditioning (38°C and 85% humidity) and horizontal clamp testing.
For non-private brand products, testing shall follow the current ISTA 3A, 3B, and 6-FedEx-A standards without the additional requirements.
Walmart Canada's requirements for packaging test laboratories: Laboratories must be certified by the International Safe Transit Association (ISTA). Only product testing laboratories are specifically designated.
Walmart Canada considers products that meet any of the following conditions to be SIOC (Ships in Own Container) — i.e., suitable for direct shipment without over-boxing:
(Note: Please provide the specific SIOC criteria if you want them translated too.)
Walmart’s requirements for providing packaging test samples vary depending on the shipping method, quantity, and other factors. Please refer to the relevant Walmart regulations for specific details and consult our engineers for further guidance!
