Regarding the Standard Update for Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras

India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Issues Notification on CCTV Camera Regulation

On October 9, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) of India issued a notification stating that the Indian government had included closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras under the “Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021” as of April 9.

Originally, the mandatory registration policy for CCTV cameras was scheduled to take effect on October 9, 2024. However, the implementation date has now been extended to April 9, 2025.

This amendment introduces a significant addition to the existing regulation:

  • CCTV cameras must comply with the Essential Requirements (ER) outlined in Annex A of Indian Standard IS 13252-1.

  • In addition, all CCTV camera product categories must obtain test reports from BIS-recognized laboratories, which will be a prerequisite for obtaining the Standard Mark license.
