Indonesia Issues New Regulation on Wireless Power Transfer (WPT): Frequency Bands and Technical Standards to Watch!

Recently, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics of Indonesia issued Ministerial Regulation No. 46 of 2025, officially establishing the radio spectrum allocations and technical standards for license-classified Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) devices. This new regulation aims to meet the demands of technological advancement and improve spectrum utilization efficiency. Below is an overview of the key points of the regulation, intended for reference by relevant companies and industry professionals.

PART.01

Newly Added Spectrum Range

The new regulation specifies the following frequency bands

for use in wireless power transfer:

  • 100–148.5 kHz

  • 315–405 kHz

  • 1700–1800 kHz

  • 6765–6795 kHz

  • 13.553–13.567 MHz

Note: Companies must ensure their devices operate within these frequency bands and comply with the corresponding technical standards.
PART.02

Technical Standard Requirements

The new regulation sets comprehensive technical requirements for

WPT devices, including:

Power Supply: Supports AC or DC power; AC power must comply

with 220V ±10% and 50Hz ±2% conditions.

Non-Ionizing Radiation Safety: Follows ICNIRP guidelines to ensure

radiation levels remain within safe limits.

Electrical Safety: Must comply with SNI IEC 60950-1, IEC 62368-1,

and other relevant international or Indonesian national standards.

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Devices must meet CISPR 32

or ETSI EN 301 489 series standards, with classifications for fixed,

vehicular, or portable equipment.

Radio Frequency Requirements: Specifies field strength limits and

spurious emission standards for each frequency band (e.g., field

strength for the 100–148.5 kHz band must be ≤ 66 dBµA/m).

PART.03

Antenna Requirements

WPT devices must use integrated antennas

(Antena Terintegrasi)

and are not permitted to have external control functions

to prevent unauthorized operation.

PART.04

Testing Methods

The new regulation specifies testing methods for various

technical parameters, including electrical safety testing

(based on IEC standards), EMC testing (according to CISPR

32 or ETSI standards), and radio frequency testing (following

EN 300 330 and other relevant standards).

PART.05

Transition Arrangements

  • Test reports issued prior to the enactment of the new

  • regulation will still be accepted, provided their content

  • does not conflict with the new requirements.

The previous technical standards for WPT under

  • Regulation No. 260 of 2024 have been repealed and

  • replaced by the new regulation.

PART.06

Effective Date

This regulation will take effect on February 18, 2025.

The introduction of this new regulation in Indonesia provides clear guidelines for the application of wireless power transfer technology, while also imposing higher compliance requirements on related companies. It is recommended that companies promptly adjust their product designs to meet the new standards in order to successfully enter the Indonesian market.
